Disability Discrimination Laws Differ from other Civil Rights Laws
It is evident that disability discrimination laws differ from other civil rights laws in many ways. The beneficiaries of the law are a diverse group. Covered disabilities include not only the well known disabilities (such as visual or hearing impairments) and medical conditions but also various learning disabilities and psychiatric conditions. As an HR manager in Mt. Sinai Hospital, a disability case has been brought to my attention in which Debbie Kurteff alleges that she was forced to leave the hospital because it failed to reasonably accommodate her disability even though she felt she was qualified for the position.
