First Confession by Frank O'Connor
|
Frank O'Connor's short story, "First Confession," is mainly about Jackie who, because of problems with his grandmother and sister, is afraid to make his first confession. Adding to Jackie's fear is confusion about what he's been taught about religion and the way "religious" people behave. However, when Jackie meets the priest who hears his first confession, he learns that religion is not really the "hellfire and brimstone" that he has learned or the hypocrisy he has seen. He learns that religion can be sympathetic and helpful.
