The guitar is a hand held string instrument that has derived from the lute a form of the guitar from medieval times. It used strings which were originally formed from cat gut and made taut under pressure which in turn made a sound that could be altered by loosening or tightening the tension of the strings to produce a pitch. The sound was then amplified in a hollow body, which in turn played in the correct way produced music. However this pre-historic ancestor was not a million miles apart from the modern day guitar.
