Many historians look down upon the grave of the unpredictable, tyrannical Roman emperor by the name of Caligula. His actual name being Gaius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, Caligula was a megalomaniac who sought self pleasure and fulfillment of even the most outrageous ventures. Born in August 31, 12 A.D. at Antium, Caligula gained his nickname when he was two. Raised in a military camp, the legions dubbed the young Gaius, Caligula due to his frequent sporting of miniature military garb. A caliga was a hob-nailed boot worn by lower soldiers. However, it was said that if anyone who addressed him with that name would be punished though he did not prefer Gaius either.
