Youth Violence
“Youth Violence is a serious and extreme behaviour that is intended to cause harm or physical injury to another person.” These behaviours could include robbery, suicide, physical or emotional abuse, sexual assault, etc. (Crime Stoppers, 2001)
Youth violence has become a major concern in society and statistics prove that the number of violent acts committed by young people are rapidly increasing. (Vital signs, 2003) Youth violence is now the leading cause of death and disability among American children. In 1997, 17 American children on average between the ages of 15 to 24 were murdered. (Vital signs, 2003)
Although children commit these crimes, many are not clever enough to come up with such violence acts alone.
