The War of 1812 was also considered the “Second War of Independence” in America. This second defeat of British forces which evolved through various causes and brought about a number of changes social, economic and political has also become a central element in the US military self-image. The resentment against British forces was enhanced through Britain’s violation of neutral shipping rights in America. Although both Britain and France committed damage on American shipping, they were more offended by the British because it had the greatest navy and was more effective, and because the Americans were extremely sensitive to British insults to national honor.
