Injustice. Abuse. Hate. These are words that can only begin to describe the horrible treatment that
African-Americans faced during our nation’s dark past. Imagine having to go through life feeling
inferior to other people. Imagine being harassed and discriminated against for being of a certain
race. African-Americans of the 1950s and 60s had enough of this cruel treatment and decided
they would do something about it. They stood up for their rights and fought for freedoms which
should have already been theirs. This time in our nation’s history was known as the Civil Rights
Movement.
