Classical Fairytales give children a false sense of reality. It not only reinforces stereotype and prejudice, but also encourages them to view the world in a narrow fashion or as black and white. Through the influence of fairytales children grow up thinking that everything will end ‘happily ever after.’ They are not prepared for the hideous realities of life.
It is undeniable that classical fairytales enforces a stereotype. The hero is always a handsome strong young man. He is both physically and mentally strong, and slays dragons and monsters as a hobby. Young boys grow up with the impression that they are expected not to show any weak emotions, be physically strong and slay anything that is a threat to them. Any wonder we have bullies
