The Divine Comedy is a poem written by Dante Alighieri in 1306-1321. It is divided into 3 sections: Inferno (Hell), Purgatorio (Purgatory), and Paradiso (Heaven). Each section has 33 cantos, except Inferno that has 34, which are written in groups of 3 lines called tercet.
Before I begin, I am going to give you some basic information to explain how this all came about. Dante was not a good boy, so his dead love Beatrice asks the Virgin Mary to help him to see his mistakes. She agree=s and sends Dante on a three day trip through Hell, Mount Purgatory, and finally Heaven. Since Dante is so lost spiritually, he needs a guide to help him along the way. So now begins his journey.
