This case deals with how a company reacted to and managed an employee’s revelation that he had AIDS. The employee, Paul Cronan, finally revealed to his supervisor he had AIDS Related Complex after missing work several times for doctor appointments. This supervisor subsequently told management and this news eventually became known to the others employees at NET.
The other employees became upset at the prospect of Cronan returning to work after an extended medical leave of absence. They had irrational fears of Cronan’s AIDS diagnosis despite NET’s last minute attempt to educate them on this disease.
