Throughout this movie, Charlie is experiencing strong frustration and pain. The audience in the circus saw him as funny when he wasn’t trying to be funny. He was being chased, accused of stealing when he wasn’t the thief, and ran into the circus. He became the center of attention when he was only trying to get away.
