The Baroque Period was an artistic and architectural movement that lasted for most of the seventeenth century. Baroque style emphasizes drama, emotion and movement. It began in Rome with religious art and spread north where Protestant artists applied it to secular subjects. Surprisingly, the turbulent Thirty Year’s War has little impact on the imagery of Baroque art. Also during this time, the link between science and art breaks. Science and philosophy were considered too complex and systematic to stir the artist’s imagination.
