The Victorian Era spanned nearly a century. The world was changing rapidly and advancements in society were moving at amazing speeds. An area that was not keeping up with the pace of the industrial changes, but in dire need was the conditions and treatment of the working class children. Many people were appalled by the conditions the children were exposed to. Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s poem “The Cry of the Children” speaks volumes to this political issue.
