My immediate reaction when reading Fire Next Time by James Baldwin was of inspiration and acclaim for the writing. Baldwin's talents as a writer are indisputable. It opens the reader to the harsh world of a black boy growing into a man in the poor city slums and all of the issues that a black man has to face. Religion is his primary issue to solve personal and social conflicts.
The main change Baldwin discusses in his biographical novel, The Fire Next Time, religion and how it teaches hate for others and love for those who believe.
