In the very beginning of the book Elie Weisel is very religious for only being a 15 year old boy. Elie really wants a mentor to guide him in studying the cabbala, but his father tells him that he must wait until he knows the basic subjects within his own understanding. So instead of having a mentor to guide his studies he studies on his own. This showed what a large part God played in Elie’s life before leaving for the camps. He believed so much that he would weep when reading about the destruction of the temple. Elie found comfort in talking with Moshe the Beadle. I feel that Moshe taught Elie a very important lesson before he was taken away. Moshe taught him that man raises himself towards God by the questions he asks Him. I
