The beginning of K.K.K (Late 1800’)
The clan was founded by a Confederate army veteran’s social club in Tennessee around 1865. The first leader, or Grand Wizard, was Confederate Gen. Nathan Bedford. The group had gotten it’s name from the Greek word “kuklos” meaning circle, and the English word “clan”. The values of the Klan was quite simple “White Superiority”. The way the Klan exercises these values was to terrorize blacks and whites who felt sympathy for the blacks. The Klan was out raged by the rights gained from the civil war. Even though the blacks had rights they were terrorized by the Klan preventing them from using these rights. They often threatened, beat, or even brutally murdered blacks or white sympathizers.
