“Those who love to see the truth,” are the true philosophers according to Socrates in The Republic by Plato. (198) Socrates has a vision for an ideal state where every citizen has a specialized profession which they excel in to construct a “happy” or ideal community. There is the economic class, to provide the basic needs of the community. The soldiering class to protect the state. Last of all, the ruling class, who leads and guides the state. The ruler in this state, according to Socrates, is a philosopher, because only a human of wisdom who desires truth can rule without injustice.
