If you really think about it, any novel can be compared to myths. It is however a rare circumstance for a novel to fit the characteristics of Joseph Campbell’s Monomyth. The Odyssey, for example, fits most if not all of the Monomyth characteristics. This allows The Odyssey to serve as a good reference in comparing novels to the Monomyth. Charles Frazier’s story, Cold Mountain, is an amazing example of the Monomyth in literature.
