In 1879, my dad decided to move my family and I do to the United States. We lived in Germany and were pushed away by military conscription. We were from the northeastern province and the economy was bad. We suffered greatly after the 20year span of wars. My dad heard so many good stories about the freedom and power of America. With hope for a brighter future, we came here to find the “American Dream”. Tobacco and lumbar were shipped to Germany on a steamship, and in return, the steamship carried my family and other immigrants back to the U.S.
