Parents: To Know or Not to Know?
|
Thirty-five percent of young women become pregnant at least once before they reach the age of twenty. That is about 850,000 a year. The United States has the highest rates of teen pregnancy and births in the western world. Another third of girls between the ages of fifteen and nineteen terminate their pregnancies in order to continue to live their lives as active young adults. Teenage girls should have the option to protect themselves from becoming pregnant by being able to consult a doctor without their parent’s consent. By allowing teens not to notify their parents about birth control, more teens will practice safe sex, and the percentage of teenage pregnancy will decrease, therefore causing abortion rates to be lowered.
