Herbert Clark Hoover was born in Iowa in 1874. Being the son of a blacksmith, Hoover brought an abundant amount of service to the public as an engineer, administrator, and humanitarian. In 1891 he decided to go to college at Stanford University the year it opened and graduate as a mining engineer. He met Lou Henry at Stanford, whom became his wife and they ran off to China. In China he worked for a private corporation as a leading engineer.
In June 1900 the Boxer Rebellion caught the Hoovers in Tientsin. For almost a month the settlement was under heavy fire.
