In Act 3, Scene 5, the 3 sisters meet with Hecate, queen of the witches. Since she is such, it shows evidence that the Three Sisters are indeed witches and not merely instruments of fate. Their cauldron scene (Act 4, Scene 1) depicts the women as stereotypical classical witches. If we do not think them as witches, then the idea of fate is more strongly held. It shows that Macbeth would have died a traitor anyways, perhaps. If we do not think of the Three Sisters as witches, then we also lose the dark and supernatural aspect of the characters.
