Self-awareness consists of four components on ones self. The open self, hidden self, blind self, and the unknown self. The importance of self-awareness in the social work field is to know yourself well enough to be able to help and conduct effective interviews. A social worker needs to be aware of themselves so they understand their triggers, ways to lower their stress, and whether or not they are capable of dealing with a certain case or client. Its potential impact on the practice between a social worker and the client is if you do not know who you are, then the clients will not want to come back looking for your guidance.
