Buddhism is not only a religion, but it is a way of life. It is the path to salvation from samsara, the endless cycle of uncontrolled rebirths. There are many symbols, festivals, and different rituals prescribed to Buddhism. In the country of Tibet, they have a theocracy government, meaning that it is ruled by a religious leader, and their laws abide by their religious principles and beliefs. Their leader is known as the Dalai Lama. Dalai means “great ocean,” and Lama means “teacher.” During World War Ď, an Austrian met up with Tibet’s current Dalai Lama. The two of them learned many things from each other, and the Austrian experienced the true ways of the Buddhists in Tibet.
