Tecumseh, the son of Methoataske and Puckenshinwa was born in 1768 in a Shawnee Village in Western Ohio. His older sister, Tecumpease and his older brother Chiksika raised him and two of his younger brothers, since his father died when he was a young child and his mother moved with her people to Northern Alabama.
Tecumseh was very close with his sister and his brother. They seemed to have a special sympathy with him and differentiated him among his two other small brothers, making his childhood very successful.
A strong muscular and skilled boy, Tecumseh possessed most of the important qualities for a young Shawnee and soon distinguished himself among the boys of his village.
