The Great Gatsby provides a very simple separation of wealth and poverty. West and East Egg both consist of money. The money buys everyone’s happiness and wonderful lives. The Eggers believe their lives are perfect and nothing could do them wrong. This is just the opposite in The Valley Of Ashes. People’s lives are depressing and are not representative of the American Dream. Money is extremely tight. The heaven the Eggers live is equal to the hell the valley’s people live.
The Valley of Ashes is directly between West and East Egg and New York City. In order for the wealthy people to get to one destination, they must drive down into the valley and become the outcasts. This is a great example of why the Valley of Ashes represents hell on
