Excerpt from The Northwest Ordinance of July 13, 1787:
...(t)he utmost good faith shall always be observed towards the Indians; their land and property shall never be taken from them without their consent; and in their property, rights, and liberty, they shall never be invaded or disturbed, unless in just and lawful wars authorized by Congress . . . .
Well after reading the above quote from the ordinance it seems that they were really looking out for the Natives in The Northwest ordinance of 1781. It reads as if they are to be treated with respect and they keep the land which they occupied first. But this section of the ordinance was too good to be true.
