A Comparison Of ‘Angela’s Ashes’ And Dancing At Lughnasa

I have chosen to study Angela’s Ashes directed by Alan Parker to help me with my performance and character analysis as Kate in Dancing At Lughnasa. These are very similar in both their themes and social and cultural context. Both are set in Ireland in the 1930’s and are about Catholic families. Both the Mundy sisters and the McCourt family live in poverty and experience the loss of a father figure. They both share a common theme in that they both stress the importance of family.
Both Angela’s Ashes and Dancing At Lughnasa are about the need for escape. In Angela’s Ashes, Frank wants to escape the poverty of Ireland and go to America and, at the end of the film achieves his dream, but although his Father and Angela also want to escape the
