John Donnes poetry effectively involves and provokes its readers and listeners on an intellectual level
whilst also being entertaining. The features recognisable in his works are those that characterise metaphysical poetry. These features include his dramatic direct address, his use of personal pronouns, the selection of highly original concepts or extended metaphors and his use of paradox.
