In Andre Dubus’ “Killings” the short story can be considered to a love story as well as a murder story. Richard Strout murders Frank Fowler because of his relationship with his estranged wife Mary Ann. Frank Fowler’s father Matt and Willis Trottier (Matt’s friend) fell as though law enforcement aren’t doing their job. For the love of his son Matt and Willis take matters into their own hands.
No parent(s) should ever have to bury any of their children. Matt Fowler thought about this during the funeral and burial of his youngest son, Frank. In the days following the funeral his son’s killer was walking freely throughout town on bond (9). This was an injustice and a slap in the face for Frank’s parents and everyone else who loved him.
