Frito-Lay had grown largely through the acquisition of small companies. However, it is highly decentralized. During the 70s, the strategy of the company was to provide customers with excellent service and high quality products. With its expansion, it encounters problems such as the need to recast their vision for a change as a corporate-wide initiative rather than just a field sales initiative, the need to manage efficiently and control benefits through the centralized structure, and need to provide information to support both decentralized decision making and centralized control.
