Langston Hughes was a key figure in the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s. Salvation is an autobiographical essay that appeared in his collection The Big Sea in 1940. The story Salvation is of a young Hughes who realizes that he is in doubt of a strongly held belief. People often put faith into certain things but often give up because they get no results.
