How do we perceive depth?
One of the major achievements in the field of depth perception is the process by which two-dimensional retinal images are transformed into 3 dimensional images. This is what is basically meant by the term “depth perception.” There are three main types of cues for depth perception: monocular, oculomotor and binocular. Monocular cues only require use of one eye but can be used by both eyes. Oculomotor cues are kinaesthetic meaning they are dependent on contractions of the muscles around the eyes and the sensations produced. Finally binocular cues involve both eyes being used together. Binocular cues cannot be used by only one eye.
