Ideas of Confucius and Socrates

Throughout western philosophy, the west has cultivated a love of wisdom in a search for truth and knowledge. Eastern philosophy, on the other hand, has cherished the learning of the wise as applied knowledge in search of a way of life. The western view desired the truth behind "how to think," while the eastern view required an understanding of "how to live" as a matter of life or death. Socrates used logic to arrive at his truth, while Confucius attributed more significance to intuition. Each faced similar societal problems; however, the unique difficulties and the search to discover the solutions to them, helped shape their cultures into what they have become.
