Psalms-The Original Meaning
|
The Psalms are the divinely-inspired songs of the People of Israel. They are traditionally called the "psalms of David," although many of them most certainly come from other authors of much later times. Psalms are not doctrinal statements, creeds, or history. They are a collection of hymns of praise and worship. Ancient Hebrew referred to this collection as Tehillim (songs of praise). The English title for the Book of Psalms comes from the Greek word “Psalmoi,” meaning songs to be sung with the accompaniment of stringed instruments.
