I would elect to prosecute and subject the three sixteen year olds to the prescribed prison sentences created under the new law. I have been sworn to “uphold the laws of the state.” I cannot go against my oath because I start to feel sorry for the individuals who broke the law. If I did, there would be a lot of people who would be free because I felt sorry for them.
Many would argue that these are just young boys who may have not known what they were doing, or how great the consequences really are. This may be partially true, they may not have known what the consequences are. That’s no excuse for knowingly breaking the law.
