The Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts, Marcellete Williams declared that the University Child Care Center (UCC) would cease to have full day services as of May 25, 2002. The cut was made due to the fact that the operation of the childcare center was not considered central to the mission of the University. The University is also facing a budget crisis. Since the government has decided to significantly cut the University’s budget, many programs have had to be cut because there is no longer money to fund them. While the money issue is understood, the services that the UCC provides are a crucial part of the University experience.
