In my opinion, finance departments are not the best place to train future CEOs. Since a CEO is responsible for the overall operation of a company, a well-rounded individual with operations experience is generally the best choice for the position. While there are some advantages to having former financial managers eventually head a company’s overall operations, the operational skills and vision that they oftentimes lack can be very detrimental to the company’s success.
