Cicero is among the great philosophers of all time. He expanded upon the theories of Plato and Aristotle. Born the son of a man who possessed moderate means, Cicero used his intellect to rise above his station in life. This was to the agony of Caesar, who eventually came to view Cicero as a necessary evil. Cicero was forgiven for his support of Pompey against Caesar, during the civil war, and he was allowed to live in Rome. Upon Caesar’s murder, Cicero fought for a government that was based on constitutionalism. It was not, however, the will of the current dictators, and Cicero was executed. During his lifetime, Cicero expanded on the theory of Natural Laws and of how a government should function.
