Boeing was operating their production lines inefficiently. They had production delays and high costs. They attributed these problems as a price to be paid for manufacturing quality aircraft. Boeing was slow to realize that the airline companies were demanding both low cost and high quality. They started integrating higher efficiency and lower costs into their production lines when they started losing more and more market share to Airbus. If they had a little foresight, they could have anticipated the changing market place and made changes to their production methods earlier and perhaps kept their market share.
