The difference and similarities between the VSM and the SSM
1. Introduction:
More than twenty years ago Stafford Beer developed the Viable Systems Model (VSM). In these terms the VSM is not something new to management. The VSM is used to help organizations to redesign their structures. Mainly it is a conceptual tool for understanding organizations. The VSM has proven to be effective in numerous organizations, both public and private. The back draw is that management in general still have a vague understanding of the VSM or non at all. Two reasons for this have been identified: 1. It has been hard to understand the ideas surrounding the model. 2.
