Was ‘Sola Fide’ The Most Important of Luther’s Teachings?
There were three ideas on which Luther based his teachings. Luther taught that individuals could not gain salvation through good works. This emphasis on "faith alone" was a significant shift in perspective. In particular, it undercut the selling of indulgences and by criticizing this practice Luther challenged an important source of revenue for the church. He taught that the only way to get salvation was hope in God's mercy. This was a very important teaching of Luther’s however his other beliefs are not inferior to this.
