Laurent Clerc

Laurent Clerc was a master of the signing profession. His wisdom brought many people to understanding of the deaf community and culture. He also made many generations realize that deaf people were not outcasts or handicapped, but people who felt and believed the same way as everyone else. Their only difference was their means of communication. He taught many people of all ages how accept the deaf and how to communicate with a deaf person. Clerc’s works brought change, hope, and peace to the world through his teachings. Laurent Clerc was born with ability to hear, but lost his ability when he fell into a fire at a very early age. Clerc often retreated to the woods to remove himself of the daily embarrassment of his dissimilarity. C
