Japan is a nation consisting of hundreds of islands with an area totaling more than 145,902 sq miles and lies along the eastern coast of Asia. The majority of this land is located on one of the five main islands; Shikoku, Kyushu, Hokkaido, Honshu, and Okinawa. Combined, these five main islands and their smaller counterparts make up an area roughly the size of California and are home to more than 126 million people.
