The hopes of the American Dream were put upon the people of the nation, for them to interpret, and for them to live up to the expectations of the community around them. “You can’t eat an orange and throw away the peal”, demonstrates some of the main points that Miller had about the American Dream, and how it was not fair for all people. In Death of a Salesman, Arthur Miller, through the character of Willy Loman, suggests that not all people had what it took to survive the free market economy. Miller expanded upon this idea through Willy’s relationship with Howard, Willy’s view of material goods and Willy’s illusionary world.
