No film has quite the reputation that this 1941 classic has, to put it mildly. Widely held to be the greatest film ever made. Showing trademark ambition, Welles took on a story based heavily on the life of William Randolph Hearst, the powerful newspaper titan, whose power and wealth knew no bounds Welles also collaborated with experimental cinematographer Gregg Toland, who had pioneered the technique of deep focus - in which everything within a scene was in focus from front to back.
