What influencd my decision to apply to college?

As an African American female living in a suburban city I’m faced with a bevy of obstacles to overcome. After overcoming the demise of several of my family members, aiding a close friend who coped with suicidal issues, and visiting my brother in a penitentiary each week, it would appear that at least one of these issues would influence me. However, although these are significant events in my life, none give me the determination to enhance myself and express my talent. Situations such as these are what cause me to lose hope. While the negative aspects would influence someone to formulate an improved life for him/herself, I for one am the opposite.
