What led to Enron’s collapse? Power and greed tend to corrupt the best of people. We can see examples of such corruption and collapse throughout history, including the fall of the Roman Empire, Saddam Hussein, and Mussolini. I think the same greed for money and power also led to Enron’s collapse. The corruption spreads throughout all levels of the organization including partners and the company’s accounting firm, Arthur Andersen. “Enron had a distracted, hands-off chairman, a compliant board of directors and an impotent staff of accountants, auditors and lawyers.” (1)
The overall philosophy of the company spells greed. Jeff Skilling with his extraordinary management and leadership skills was able to create a “growth-at-any-cost culture”
