Gone are the days with rows of desks filled with students as a teacher lectures from behind a podium. Tammy Mooney is a “learner” at one of Canada’s newest universities. The Technical University of British Columbia introduces a new style of learning to Canadians and international students. Students at this university take part in an independent learning process. A writer of the Edmonton journal explains, “Basically, the old notion of a teacher is someone who imparts education and a student is someone who receives it…A learner is someone more actively involved in the process.” (Rees 445) This is why Tammy is referred to as a learner instead of just an ordinary student.
Technology has become a major resource in our lives today.
