A great amount of the story Ethan Frome is about making choices. Edith Wharton really allows the readers to realize how life is mostly in their hands, and although some people might believe that, their future is already written for them and that there is no choice but to just follow the path that was paved for you. Although choices is one of the main themes in this story it is extremely surprising to see how the main character fail to make his own choices and instead followed the choices that everyone else in his family had taken.
